As currently proposed, the project consists of 120,000 acre-feet of storage in Ridges Basin Reservoir (an off-channel
facility) for water to be diverted from the Animas River. Project beneficiaries include the Southern Ute, Ute Mountain
Ute and Navajo Indian tribes as well as the cites of Durango, Farmington, New Mexico and other communities in
southem Colorado and northern New Mexico. The project is a crucial element in the Colorado Ute Indian Water Rights
Settlement Act of 1988. A Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the project was released in July 2000.
The project is awaiting congressional authorization.

South Platte Lower River Grottp (SPLRGl - Augmentation I'roiects

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate how managed ground water systems can be used to provide augmentation
water for junior wells, in compliance with the South Platte River Compact. Eight demonstration projects were fully or
eartiallY funded, and the $135,000 grant amount has been expended. SPLRG will be requesting additional funding for
emonstration projects, starting in 2001. Project participants include the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District,
the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District, Ground Water Appropriators of the South Platte, the Platte River
Project, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

South Platte Lower River Group (SPLRG) - Tamarack Proiect

This project consists of a series of managed groundwater subprojects located within the Tamarack Ranch State Wildlife
area, the Pony Express State Wildlife area, and other areas adjacent to the South Platte River in Logan and Sedgwick
Counties. The pUrpose is to pump water from the South Platte River during times of surplus and deliver this water to
infiltration areas. Water then percolates back to the river and provides augmentation during times of shortage. Seven
wells have been completed to date, and funding will be fully expended by 2001. Project participants include the Northern
Colorado Water Conservancy District, the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District, Ground Water Appropriators
of the South Platte, the Platte River Project, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
