~v~o

in western Colorado is in general routine and not much
different from our previous reports.

The definite plan investigation for Silt project
is still in the preliminary stage. We are studying a number
-of plan formulation, drainage, and design problems, but
have not as yet had time to reach final conclusions.

I

Start of designs and estimates for features on
Fruitland Mesa and Bostwick Park projects have been await-
_ing completion of water supply studies and a selection of the
scale of " development. The water supply appendixes are now
completed and work on the remaining phases of the investiga-
tion have been stepped up. Our problem on Fruitland Mesa
project is whether Class 4P land can be included. We have
been cooperating with the City of Montrose in studying the
Bostwick Park project as a source of municipal and indus-
trial water.

A contract was awarded in October for topographic
mapping of potential canal lines on West Divide project.

A field inspection of flood damage along the Un-
compahgre River was made by the Corps of Engineers. We are
supplying the Corps with studies and data they will need
for a determination of flood control benefits to be associated
with the potential Dallas Creek project. We are also coop-
erating with the Corps of Engineers on flood control matters
,on Dolores and Florida projects.

Field work for the detailed land classification of
lands to be included in the Dolores project is essentially
complete. The general development plan for the project can
be concluded as soon as definite acreage figures are avail-
able. Comparative cost estimates were completed for con-
crete dam structures at the Teft site on the Animas River
and the Purgatory site on Cascade Creek, which tentatively
indicate an appreciable cost savings in the use of the Purga-
tory Dam site for the Animas-La Plata project.

We understand that Department of Agriculture's
work is progressing very satisfactorily and on schedule.

I
