<br />..Lv":t":t <br /> <br />PROGRESS REPORT ON BUREAU OF RECLAMATION <br />ACTIVITIES IN WESTERN COLORADO <br />COD)RADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD MEETING <br /> <br />January 14, 1959 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Collbran Proiect <br /> <br />Winter weather has forced the stoppage of work on <br />Vega Dam. This feature of the project has now reached the <br />90 percent completion point. The spillway and relocation <br />of the county road through the r~servoir basin are complete. <br />The outlet works including installation of mechanical and <br />electrical operating machinery are in place and are completed <br />except for minor cleanup and painting. Storms at the work <br />site on November 16 forced cessation of embankment placement <br />in the dam. The contractor, however, continued to operate <br />his earth separation plant and to stockpile materials for <br />the dam until mid December. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />E:x:cellent progress was made under the contract for <br />Cottonwood ,s.ccess road and Big Meadows Branch road. Work was <br />95 percent completed before winter storms required stoppage. <br />The small amount of roadway excavation, fine grading, and <br />general cleanup remaining to be performed will be completed <br />as soon as weather conditions will permit in the spring. <br /> <br />A contract in the amount of $344,467 was awarded <br />November 7, 1958, for constructing a 2,300 foot tunnel section <br />on the Southside Canal. The contractor has pioneered a bull- <br />dozer road to the outlet portal and an access road between <br />the portals. Excavation of the tunnel bore is expected to <br />get underway before the month's end. <br /> <br />Specifications covering the first 22 miles of the <br />Southside Canal and the Upper and Lower Molina Powerplants, <br />7 miles of plate steel pipe and penstocks, and an equalizing <br />reservoir are scheduled for issuance by March 1959. <br /> <br />Paonia Proiect <br /> <br />Bids were taken on December 2, 1958, and a contract <br />awarded on January 7, 1959, for constructing Paonia Dam and I <br />relocation of the State Highway'through the reservoir basin. <br />The low bid in the amount of $3,167,176 was submitted by Bud <br />King Construction Company of Missoula, Montana. <br /> <br />Smith Fork Proiect. <br /> <br />A field draft of the definite plan report for this <br />
