....vvv

I would be delighted if the Legislature
could take time to read that report thoroughly
because I think it gives them a background of
the Colorado River that even some of us who
have worked on the problem, for a little time
at least, had no clear picture of. I am sure
it could be a useful reference document for 1-
all of them. If you could make these ar-
rangements, Larry, I think it would be very
good."

MR. BARNARD,SR.: "I will get together with Mr. Sparks and
Bob Barkley and we'll figure out how many of
them they need. We'll have to get more
copies of the map made but that's only a day's
process. They should be sent to the Legis-
lators, as I see it, and whoever else gets
the~, by the Director of the Water Board."

MR. STAPLETON: "I would like to put out this question -
when will the conference of the seven states
be held? We talk in terms of January or
February, has it been finalized yet?"

MR. SPARKS: "We have no fixed date. We anticipate
it will be the latter part of this month or
the early part of February."

MR. STAPLETON: "That could be one of the most important
meetings of the year, could it not?"

MR. SPARKS: "Yes. I think undoubtedly a series of
meetings will take place. The first meet-
ing is solely for the purpose of the engi-
neering groups to present the stuilies that .
they have made. Gil, do you know how many
studies the Upper Basin states have made?"

MR. GILDERSLEEVE: "In the neighborhood of 150."

MR. SPARKS:

"That has been a long, hard, complicated
project because so many factors must be taken
into consideration. Our two engineers from
this Board, Mr. Gildersleeve and Mr. Kuiper,
have worked with the engineers from the
other Upper Basin states, primarily with the
Utah engineers and with the Commission engi-
neers. Wyoming and New Mexico have not been
in a position to contribute much to that
study. Their staffs apparently have not been
adequate. But this has been a long, tedious
process and not only our two engineers, Mr.

I
