generally we have always felt that this was a viable project. Unless
these questions raise new issues and facts we are not aware of, he
will continue to support the project. I think he would welcome the
views of the Water Conservation Board.

MR. STAPLETON: Any further discussion.by the members of the board?
(No response.)

I

Anyone from the audience?

MR. FRlEHAUF: I don't want to take too much of your time. I want to
reassure all the .members of this board that the directors of the
Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District wholeheartedly support
this project. We haven't engaged in any wild campaign or publicity
for the project. We feel that it is a very viable pron~ct and the
facts of the project speak for themselves and speak well for the proj-
ect. The water conservancy districts supporting the project not only
consist of the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District, but, also
the Central Colorado Water Conservancy District. We serve water users
in six counties. So it's not localized to benefit one area. I believe
your director has kept you very well informed on the facts surrounding
the project. I would like you to know we do support the project and
were very appreciative of ,this board's action in the past, and your
continued support will also be very much appreciated. Thank you.

MR. STAPLETON:
saying, "Aye."
next one.

.We will vote on the motion. All in favor signify by
Opposed, "No." Carried unanimously. Let's go to the

I

MR. SPARKS: The next project, Mr. Chairman, is the Fryingpan-Arkansas
project. We don't have a summary of that project in your folders
because it's an ongoing project, well along towards completion. The
budget request by the President is $39,000,000, and I have received
correspondence from Mr. Thomson, who is here today and is the manager
of the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District, in which the
district expresses the opinion that the amount is adequate.

MR. STAPLETON: I don't think there's any action to be taken.

MR. SPARKS: Again, I think, only to approve. We have to present
testimony during the week of March 29. I will be leaving for Washington
on Sunday, the 28th. I think we do need to reconnnend to the Governor
and the Congressional Delegation that they support the president's
budget request for this project.

MR. STAPLETON: Well, I assume that we don't have a lot of motions.
Would the board agree that we consider the reconnnendations of the staff
on C through J, unless something comes up to the contrary?

MR. JACKSON: I would so move.

MR. FORD: I second the motion.

-7-
