890

The field crew has spent the winter preparing an
estimate for the relocation of highway 50 and has now nearly
completed that work. The crew is now preparing to return to
the field.

Recent correspondence from the Corps of Engineers
indicates that a flood control study of the Curecanti unit
will cost about $10,000. We had programed no funds for this
item since the Corps has previously used its own money for
this type of work. Funds for this work will have to be made
available from some source. The Bureau of Sport Fisheries
and Wildlife has completed a preliminary report which will
require some modifications. Likewise the Forest Service's
report is nearing completion. A report by the National Park
Service is available.

I

Paonia Project

We were able to transfer sufficient funds to the
Chief Engineer, Denver, to enable that office to complete the
specifications on Paonia Dam this fiscal year. No further
planning work is programed. Construction can begin as soon
as funds are made available. The present schedule is for con-
struction to start in F. Y. 1961.

Smith Fork Proiect

All planning work is complete except for cost esti-
mate on project features and repayment studies. We have re-
ceived preliminary draft of Agriculture's report and are pre-
paring informal comments for their consideration. We are on
schedule to meet the June completion date for the definite
plan report. The construction of this project is scheduled
for F. Y. 1963. About 6 to 8 months would be required after
construction funds are appropriated to prepare final designs
and specifications, obtain rights-of-way, and to make an award
of contract. No delays should result from repayment negotia-
tions as the Conservancy District is organized and local sup-
port for the project is very strong.

Pine River Project Extension

A status report is now being prepared to appraise
remaining possibilities for reclamation development. It
remains to be seen if an economically justified project can
be planned because of reduced acreage.

I

Silt Project
Land classification surveys are complete, but other
