892

awarded in October 1957 to Michael Baker, Jr., Inc., Jackson,
Mississippi. Land classification surveys in the Dove Creek
area are being delayed until topography is available. Project
land topography and land classification and drainage surveys
in the Cortez-McElmo area of the Montezuma valley, and the
Ute Indian reservation, however, are continuing. Under our
present program the feasibility report will be completed in
1960.

I

Animas-La Plata Proiect

Photogrammetric mapping of the remaining lands not
previously covered by topographic maps was included in the
contract awarded in October 1957 to Michael Baker, Jr., Inc.,
mentioned before. Location surveys for the Main diversion
canal from Animas River are started. Several possible modifi-
cations in the project plan for obtaining storage on the Animas
River and tributaries are being appraised. Detailed land classi-
fication surveys are going forward on the McDermott Area. Com-
pletion date of the feasibility report is 1961.

Fruitqrowers Dam Project Extension

No further work is planned on the proposed feasibility
report which was completed in March 1954. Because of the ob-
jections to the proposed water exchanges and the possibility of
serving the area at some future date under the Grand Mesa proj-
ect, we are recommending that that project investigation be stricken
from the program at least for the present.

West Divide Project

Preliminary plan formulation studies are being made
of potential alternatives and modifications to the plan to
see if present marginal economic justification can be improved.
Comparative estimates are being made of the Placita and Hot
Springs Reservoir sites on Crystal River for comparison with
the Osgood site used in the present plan. The feasibility reporl
is scheduled for F. Y. 1960.

Proqram for Future Years

In F. Y. 1959 detailed project investigations are
scheduled to be resumed on San Miguel (Nucla and Saucer Val-
ley included) and to be initiated on the Dallas Creek project.
Starts on these investigations would be followed by Trouble-
some, Eagle Divide, and Grand Mesa projects investigation as
funds become available. In addition, we plan to start studies
of the power potentialities on the Yampa River in F. Y. 1959.

I
