2686

MR. STAPLETON:

has been done in the past few months has divided
the State of Colorado. No matter who is right'
or who is wrong, a tremendous blow has been
dealt to the State of Colorado on the national
scene and in our relationship with other states,
And at whatever cost, this thing must cease in I':,
Colorado. If we can't work together here, then
we are whipped. All of you know too well the
past results of friction within the State of
Colorado. It's a type of internal suicide. I
feel certain that from my conferences with Gover-
nor Johnson and with the Public Service Company
of Colorado that in the future these matters can
be resolved first on a technical level where
they belong. And that if people like myself
and Mr. Person, and other such people, will only
keep their mouths shut then we'll get these
matters solved. I have no choice, I'm leaving
and I will keep my mouth shut in the future.
The Governor has indicated his willingness to
let these matters be decided by a competent
group of technical people who understand some-
thing about this situation.

I have greatly enjoyed the confidence of
this Board. I have respected the decisions you
have made and I go away with only one fear, that
when I leave you will find out you can do just
as well without me. But it has been one of the
greatest satisfactions during my short life to
have worked with this Board and for the people
of the State of Colorado. I feel sure that
when I leave that the State of Colorado, through
its collective citizenry, will remain in good
shape. Thank you."

"We have, on the agenda, a movie from the
Upper Colorado River Commission and I'd like
to conclude all the business of the Board be-
fore we show that movie. It's about 25 minutes
in length. Is there any additional business to
come before the Board? If not, Larry, I am sure
that the Board would like for me to say to you
that we appreciate tremendously the work you
have done for the Board and for the state. I
personally believe that your contribution on
this level as Pirector of the Board has been

I
