MR. SPARKS:

"That is it, other than the Interstate
Compact Administration and those amounts are
the same as last year. Our contribution to
the Upper Colorado River Commission is $51,750
and to the Arkansas Co~act Administration it
is $2,970."

MR. L. WILLIAMS:

"What was the $1200 back on page 6 for the
Upper Colorado River Commission?"

MR. SPARKS:

"That's travel, Lew. For instance, we pay
the expenses of Colorado's Commissioner through
our budget. Under all these compacts, the
co~acts specify that the Co~act Administra-
tion will not pay any expenses for travel or
otherwise for any of the Compact Commissioners.
The states must pay those expenses. Now the
money that we furnish to the Compact Adminis-
trations is used solely - well, in the case
of the Arkansas River it's primarily for ad-
ministration, stream gaging and the operation
of John Martin Reservoir; and in the Upper
Colorado River Commission that money is used
to support the staff operation only, and the
building and so on. The $1200 is the probable
expenses of our own staff and Board members
and the Upper Colorado River Commissioner in
attending the Commission meetings."

MR. PETERSON:

"Mr. Chairman, it seems to me that we could
save the State of Colorado taxpayers a consid-
erable amount of money in that amount of

$51,750. I would l~ke to suggest that that
be cut back to about $1.00."

MR. STAPLETON: "Do you want the Commissioner to answer
that?

What is the procedure on this budget? If
we approve it today then what happens?"
