.

.

.

DRAFT

The Honorable John Doolittle
Chairman
House Resources Water and Power Subcommittee
1522 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515

Re: H.R. 2348,

Dear Chairman Doolittle:

On June 24th, Rep. James V. Hansen and seven other co-sponsors introduced H.R. 2348, a
bill to authorize the Bureau of Reclamation to authorize cost sharing for the endangered fish
recovery implementation programs for the Upper Colorado and San Juan River Basins. I am
writing to ask you to will schedule a hearing on this bill in September.

It is critically important that this legislation be enacted during the I06th Congress.

State and federal agencies, and non-governmental organizations have already invested
million of dollars and many years reconciling Endangered Species Act demands with water
supply needs throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. As a result, Colorado
believes the continuation of Colorado and San Juan Endangered Fish Recovery Programs is
critically important to our ability to continue to develop our compact-apportioned water supply and
to recovering the four endangered Colorado River fish species.

I hope we can count on your support.

Respectfully submitted,

Peter Evans
Director
