completely inadequate. Through the efforts
of Congressman Rogers of~he 1st District and
congressman Brotzman of the 2nd District, the
districts primarily affected by this project,
and through the efforts of Senators Dominick I
and Allott, an additional $3 million was
recommended by the Bureau of thE! Budget. Ne
anticipate that something slightly in excess
of $10 mi'llion will be approved by . the con-
gress. This would permit the first phase of
the construction to get under way sometime
late this summer.

Governor Love also presented testimony
to the House Appropriations committee just
this week, urging the support of the appropria-
tions for the Chatfield Project.

This project will cause us the greatest
difficulty of any project ever yet constructed
in the State of colorado. It's on a different
scale and a different magnitude of anything
that we have yet experienced. This is because
we are building a rather large project in a
metropolitan area which involves the reloca-
tion of several hundred people and the reloca-
tion of railroads, highways, bridges, ditches,
ditch headings, and the waterworks which are
part of the waterworks of the city of Denver.
So this will be a most difficult project to
work out all of the many problems that will
occur. However, there is no doubt but what
they will be worked out, although undoubtedly
not to everyone's satisfaction.

Ne also have the grave problem of the
tremendous gravel deposits which occur in
the reservoir site. The legislature enacted
a memorial to the congress requesting that I
some plan be worked out so that these deposits
could be extracted. ,

We have the further problem that the
state must furnish the right-oi-way fOr ~out
eight miles of channel, immediately below the
reservoir site. Since no one in the state
