Quinlan that they will request that our
budget be increased by a supplemental appro-
priation of another $25,000 to assist the
San Luis Valley with its problems in connec-
tion with the lawsuit against Colorado by
Texas and New Mexico. Pursuant to the terms
of the order entered by the Supreme Court in
that case, the state of Colorado must show
diligence in solving the deficiency problem
in our deliveries to those lower basin states.
The Rio Grande Water Conservation District
has undertaken a program of salvage which it
hopes will remedy part of the trouble. They
are about $25,000 short of being able to com-
plete the construction of the Norton Drain,
a salvage project in the San Luis Valley. It
is my understanding that the senators and
representatives from that area will ask that
an additional $25,000 be appropriated to this
Board for the current fiscal year to complete
the construction of the Norton Drain Project."

"Larry, where do you stand in your hear-
ings at this time?"

"The hearings concerning the budget for
the Department of Natural Resources have been
consolidated for all departments under the
direction of Mr. Ten Eyck. Some questions
were asked me by the Joint Budget Committee
and its staff concerning the budget. As far
as I know there is no opposition to the
budget we have submitted.

It has been approved by the Governor
and his staff with some minor reductions.
These reductions were not significant and
apparently we did have some items in there
that under the new fiscal policy will be
provided by other agencies, such as computer
services, workmen's compensation, and similar
items. The committee did recommend a small
reduction in our travel budget.

Mr. Ten Eyck can give you a better pic-
ture of the matter than I can."
