CORNELIUS:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. CORNELIUS:

In the projects being built by the Corps
of Engineers and by the Bureau of Reclamation,
the sediment for 100 years is computed based
upon as accurate a record as we can get. The
sediment pools which are established will pro-
vide control of sediment for 100 years. The
remaining cap?city of the dam is not affected
at all. In other words, let's say we need a
dam of 100,000 feet capacity for either con-
servation or flood control. On top of that
then is computed the sediment requirements.
So if you compute that in a hundred years
there will be 20,000 feet of sediment in the
dam, then the dam is built to a capacity of
120,000 feet. For 100 years the working capa-
city of the dam is never affected at all.
After 100 years then, seuiment 'starts encroach-
ing upon the conservation or the working
capacity of the dam."

"Thank you very much. Of course, during
that 100 years the project will have to pay
for itself because we are never allowed
longer than a 100 year project life payout
schedule."

"Do any of our guests have any questions
of the Colonel? Thank you very much, colonel."

"Thank you."

"The recommendation of the Director is
that the resolution which iswitn Agenda.Item
#4 be adopted." (See Appendix B).

III so move. II

"I second."

"It has been moved by Nr. Vandemoer,
seconded by Mr. Cornelius. Any further
'discussion?"

"Will the S.C.S. have any discussion of
this, Larry?"
