~

.

.

.

.

structures and re-conoection of Rock Creek with its floodplain through a 1900' oxbow
channel
Increased riparian vegetation quality and quantity by providing bank stability and increased
access of the creek to side channels within the floodplain.

The successful completion of this restoration plan has created a changed physical condition and
increased biological potential that represents, in our opinion, an increased ability of this channel to
"protect aquatic biota to a reasonable degree" beyond the potential it had in 1977 when the ISF
appropriation was establisbed. The changed condition providing increased potential for Rock
Creek to protect biota to a reasonable degree includes:

. Increased area of suitable trout aquatic habitat

12,000 linear feet of restoration completed including the installation of 80 high
quality pools
1000' ofbank revetment and revegetation
240 instream rock habitat clusters with minor pools
Added 1900 linear feet of oxbow channel trout habitat

.

Increased value of the habitat present to satisfY the needs of the aquatic biota during
stressful low flow conditions

Average depth of thalweg at bankfull in nm areas increased from 1.5' to 2.5'
Pool size increased from <Yo width at bankfull to >Yo.. 3/4 width at bankfull
Poollengtbs increased from < Yo bankfull width to 4-8 bankfull widths
Pool depths increased from 3' at bankfull to 4'-7' at bankfull

.

IDCreased stability aDd IoDgevity ofhabitat for biota in Rock Creek

Activities installed 2500 3'-7' boulders that will not be easily mobilized by Rock
Creek flows in configurations well known for stability and function as fishery
habitat improvements
Every structure has a physical design consideration to allow it to function to
reduce velocities of near bank areas which reduces erosion
All areas of natural or man caused destabilization of streamside vegetation was
reseeded and in some cases replanted with woody vegetation.
