UUJU

been completed and is being transmitted
to our higher authority for review. An
interim report on the Bijou Creek basin
is scheduled for completion the latter
part of this year. We are seeking author-
ity to prepare an interim report on the
South Platte channel through Denver. Pre-
liminary examinations will be made of I
Boulder Creek and South Platte River
channel improvement projects to determine , .
if the authorized projects are feasible
under current conditions. Our continuing
authorities program is investigating small
projects at various locations in the
basin. The Flood Plain Management Ser-
vices program is helping communities in
the basin to define floodways to permit
prudent planning of urban flood plain
areas.

The Corps of Engineers has broad
authorities and responsibilities in the
field of water resource development.
These include flood control and navigation.
However, wherever flood control and navi-
gation are our primary purpose of the
project, other features of water resource
development may be included. Such features
include hydroelectric power, irrigation,
domestic and industrial water supplies,
recreation, fish and wildlife, conserva-
tion, water pollution abatement, etc.
The Corps has the authority and responsi-
bility to assist local interests in pre-
venting of a flood emergency that is
greater than what the local interests can
handle with local resources.

In summary, the Corps of Engineers,
Omaha District, has an active program in
the South Platte River basin which includes I'
the construction and the survey investiga-
tions under the continuing authorities
program.
