'.

,
.

ATTACHMENT 4

e

FPR 99-506
Flood Insurance Study, Arapahoe County, Colorado and Unincorporated
Areas, dated March 4, 1991.

KEY ISSUES:
. The Flood Insurance Study prepared by FEMA contains detailed and approximate engineering
infonnation along with IOO-year floodplain delineations for streams within Arapahoe County.

. The 199 I F1S revises the floodplain information on Little Dry Creek, Big Dry Creek, and Cottonwood
Creek.

. The 1991 FIS is not the most current regulatory floodplain infonnation for the County. The most
current floodplain infonnation available to the County (1995 F1S) is being utilized by the floodplain
administrator for floodplain management and NFlP purposes.

. The 1991 F1S is being proposed for designation and approval at this time. The approximate and
detailed floodplain information contained in the FIS was the best available infonnation at the time of
the study, and was used for local floodplain management until more current infonnation superseded it.
The 199 I study will be appropriately rescinded once the latest regulatory floodplain infonnation for the
County has been reviewed and designated.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE:
A notification letter was sent by ewCB staff to the local floodplain administrator to inform
the County of the proposed Board action. The floodplain administrator was also contacted
via telephone to discuss the Flood Insurance Study and the designation process. The
floodplain administrator verbally supported the Board's action, and there were no apparent
concerns or issues regarding this study. The formal Board action for this study is being taken
under Rule 9.D.I, community request. The County will send a written request letter in the
near future for inclusion in the project file.

e

SUMMARY:
The staff recommends Board approval of the floodplain resolution for unincorporated Arapahoe
County that designates the March 4, 1991 Flood Insurance Study and the accompanying Flood
Insurance Rate Maps. The approximate and detailed floodplain information within this report has
been superseded by more current studies. However, formal action by the Board will assure that the
floodplain information has been appropriately recognized by the state, thereby complying with state
statutory requirements.

6

e
