RIGII'1'S JQJU.GDDl'l' SYSTIDI (SPWIlXSI <br /> <br />A priority need of water managers in the South Pla.tte Basin in Colorado is <br />an easy and efficient process for accura.tely computing augmentation requirements <br />for existing wells. Providing data on groundwater characteristics and usage <br />through user-friendly computer softwear tools will also assist._ter managers in <br />developing future conjunctive use oppo~unities. <br /> <br />The tools should be modul.. of th. SBO' s SPWRMS so it can utilise that <br />system's databases on surface diversiOtls and water rights. Thes.e new tools or <br />modules should be PC-based with reasonably priced softwear 80 its accessible to <br />all water users. Input and output should be .both taJ)ular and graphical and <br />utilize the map viewing capabilities of GIS. <br /> <br />The following tasks or objectives would be coordinated and managed by the <br />South Platte Advisory Committee with. the lead investigator being Luis Garcia of <br />the Integrated Decision Support Group (IDS) of CStl". <br /> <br />The databases to be developed as I!l&P layers in a GIS 8y1Jtem for the South <br />Platte would consist of: <br /> <br />.--Prom ASCS aerial photos and satellite imagery; <br />(1). Layout of fields <br />(2) Irrigated acreage <br />(3) Crop type <br />(4) Canal system layout (ie, ditch laterals, tailwater ponds, recharge sites, <br />. etc) <br /> <br />--Prom SEO and augmentation plans (GASP, CCWCD, LSPWCD, and individual plans).; <br />(5) Well locations <br />These agencies databases would also provide information on irrigated acreage, <br />crop type, type of irrigation, and estimates of historical gross well pumpage. <br /> <br />'\ <br />d <br />. q/ <br />9lS <br />h~ <br />'1-# ' <br />\(IJ '" OJ\( <br />~\V <br /> <br />--Prom county land ownership maps; <br />(6) Landowner property boundaries <br />A relational database of landowner information would link to the well <br />. information database and contain other information such as ditch shares. <br /> <br />- - From USGS, Hurr maps and quad sheets; <br />(7) Bedrock elevations <br />(8) Water table elevations <br />(9) Ground surface elevations <br />(10) Permeability or transmissivity <br />(11) SDF values <br /> <br />Combining these databases with historical diversion data contained in the <br />point flow module of the SPWRMS, a water balance computation within GIS of the <br />consumptive use ~(CO) of groundwater by wells could be accCllllplished. Data from <br />weather stations combined with irrigated acreage and crop type would provide a <br />cCllllputation of total crop consumpti va use through a CO module.
