~~o~

MR. JENNINGS:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. CLINTON:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. CLINTON:

"Ben, I think we are very favored today
in having our Regional Director from Salt Lake
City here and he will give the report. In-
cidentally, he is my bossi and I take a great
deal of pleasure in introducing Mr. Clinton."

"We are delighted to have you Mr. Clinton,
and to have you make the report. I might say
that we always appreciate Mr. Jennings being
at our meetings but we are delighted to have
you here."

I

"Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Governor
McNichols, members of the Board, and visiting
guests, it is a pleasure for me to be here
this morning. Since I took over the chores
from Ole Larson a little over two years ago,
I've tried very hard to make some of your Board
meetings in the past but there was always some
more pressing business that required me else-
where. So I have had to turn the job over to
Bob Jennings but I am happy to be here this
morning and hope to be able to make a few more
of your Board meetings in the future than I
have in the past."

"Why don't you sit down there, Mr. Clinton?"

"Thank you.

I'll cover the highlights of our progress
report since your last meeting. I think it's
worth noting, even though we are just out of
the month of June, that we passed the sixtieth
anniversary of the Bureau of Reclamation and
the Reclamation Law. Sixty years in the span
of time is short historically, certainly geologi-
cally, but as you look at what's happened on the
Colorado River it seems like a long time.

I

Let me call your attention to the report
on the status of Glen Canyon Dam. The blocks
now stand at 475 feet above bedrock and we have
about 3,200,000 yards out of the 5,000,000
placed now. The job is about 75 percent com-
plete. We have two years from now to go before
the dam is topped out.
