CWCB <br /> <br />News Release <br /> <br />Chuck Lile or Dan Merriman <br />(303) 866-3441 <br /> <br />AGREEMENT REACHED ON SNOWMASS CREEK STREAMFLOW DISPUTE <br /> <br />June 28, 1996 <br />For Immediate Release <br /> <br />News contact: <br /> <br />On Thursday, Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) staff fmalized a <br />recommendation for modifications to the state's instream flow right on Snowmass Creek that <br />is expected to bring to an end more than four years of controversy between environmental <br />organizations and Aspen Skiing Company officials. <br />The staff will present its recommendation to the CWCB for its approval at a special <br />hearing that will convene on Tuesday, July 9, after the board's regular bi-monthly meeting <br />which is scheduled to end at around 1:30 p.m. The meeting, which begins at 8:30 a.m. on <br />Monday, July 8, and the July 9 hearing wilI be held at the Glenwood Springs Ramada Inn, <br />124 W. 6th S1. <br /> <br />"Given the complexity of both the scientific and legal issues involved in this case, the <br />state was extremely fortunate to be working with highly professional and technically <br />competent advocates on both sides who were willing to negotiate in good faith to arrive at <br />what we believe to be a recommendation that is based on the best available science and <br />achieves that delicate balance between human and environmental needs," said CWCB Director <br />Chuck Lile. <br />In 1976 the CWCB appropriated a 12 cfs (cubic feet per second) year-round instream <br />flow water right on the 17-mi1e reach of Snowmass Creek that runs from Snowmass Lake <br />downstream to its confluence with the Roaring Fork River.
