<br />697 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />During this period of time, he also visited the <br />office of the Chief of Engineers with reference to a restudy <br />of flood surveys on the South Platte River; conferred with <br />Senators Allott and Carroll and the Pueblo Delegation with <br />regard to the Frying Pan-Arkansas Project; and on March 21st <br />appeared before the Subcommittee on Irrigation of the Senate. <br /> <br />On ~~rch 29th he attended a meeting of the Arkan- <br />sas River Compact Administration at Lamar. The Reservoir <br />was declared empty on April 22, 1957, at 8:30 P. M.. and the <br />river administration returned to the State Engineer. <br /> <br />On April 17th the Director took part in the program <br />of the Colorado Waterhed Association. The afternoon was <br />spent in visiting the Closed Basin with Governor McNichols. <br />Vice-Chairman Moses, Bureau of Reclamation Engineer Sweet and <br />~~x Selters. That evening at a meeting of interested citizens <br />it was voted to proceed with the Closed Basin study. <br /> <br />Mr. Gildersleeve traveled to Grand Junction February <br />28-I~rch 1, to attend a meeting of the Grand Junction Chamber <br />of Commerce which was then considering the report on the DeBeque <br />Project. He addressed the meeting, giving the results of his <br />studies on this project. <br /> <br />~~rch 12-14 he traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to attend <br />a meeting of the Arkansas-White-Red River Basins Inter-Agency <br />Committee and on March 19-22 he was in St. Joseph. Missouri, <br />at a meeting of the Programming Subcommittee and the main <br />Missouri Basin Inter-Agency Committee. <br /> <br />During the past year the Director has been a member <br />of the Executive Subcommittee of the Pacific Southwest Inter- <br />Agency Committee with the understanding that Mr. Gildersleeve <br />would substitute when the Director was unable to be present. <br />On April 16-18 Mr. Gildersleeve attended a meeting of this <br />Subcommittee in Los Angeles. <br /> <br />On April 17th Mr. Boydston attended a meeting of the <br />Soil Conservation Service in Denver and at that meeting a re- <br />port was presented on the Tentative Work Plan on the Big Sandy <br />Watershed Protection Project. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Barker Classification <br /> <br />At a former meeting I called the Board's attention to <br />the grave errors in the Barker report classification of engi- <br />neering personnel.
