I

I

to members of the audience, Mr. Berry, I am sure, will be around at
recess. To keep the program moving, inasmuch as we are trying to have
this an informative program for the Utah and Colorado boards, I wonder
if the Utah board will have questions they would like to address to
Mr. Berry.

Mr. Olsen: I think not, Mr. Chairman, thank you.

Mr. Stapleton: Thank you, Mr. Berry. The next two items on the agenda,
I will ask Va:. Olsen if he would like to take them over at this point.

Mr. Lawrence: We have asked the people from the White River Oil Shale
Project to tell us about their activities and plans. The way we have
decided to go is that they are not going to detail too much about water
plans. They are going to leave that up to me as we proceed. So we will
turn it over then to Earl Ramsey of the White River Oil Shale Project.

Mr. Ramsea: It is a pleasure for our White River Shale Project group to
be invite to your combined meeting today. We do appreciate the oppo-
tunity. I do not plan to go into a lot of detail about what we are
doing in this project, but instead thought we would give you something
of a broad look at the various aspects of our program. First, I think
it would be appropriate to tell you who the White River Shale Project is.

We are composed of three owner companies, Sohio Petroleum, Phillips
Petroleum and Sun Oil Company. The three companies bid for the two Utah
oil shale tracts about this time last year. Sun and Phillips purchased
the tract called U-a, for approximately seventy-five million dollars
and Sun, Phillips and Sohio purchased the tract U-b for about forty-five
million dollars. We planned to develop our development plan to jointly
develop the two tracts as one property.

The three companies have formed a management committee composed of an
executive from each of our three owner companies. I have the pleasure
of reporting to three bosses, one of whom is with us this morning,
Mr. Larry Forsummer. Our three companies also decided at the time of
initiation of the project that we would set up a new group instead of
having one of the companies operate the program. This group has been
termed the ''White River Shale Project." We plan to stay a small orga-
nization until we have completed our detailed development plans. We
are relying upon contractors for engineering and environmental services
as needed.

I have several of our people with us this morning, and I will introduce
two of them as part of our program. One member of our team, Mr. Merrill
Littlewood, sitting here in the audience, is our manager of community
development in water. He will not be on the program this morning, as
Dan mentioned. He and I kind of made an agreement that Dan would take
care of the water if we would take care of the development of the plans
for oil shale.

Mr. C. E. Doney will give you a broad overview of our engineering plans
and he will be followed by Reese Madsen, who is located in Vernal, Utah,

-51-
