The existing structure, which is built from stones and timber, has served a very <br />useful purpose in the past but is now considered to be at risk due to its age. The proposed project <br />will bring the system up to acceptable engineering standards, and will help to protect the City's <br />citizens, businesses, visitors, and infrastructure. The existing deflection structure and upstream <br />drainage area has been under review by the City and a consulting engineering firm hired by the <br />2 <br /> <br />. <br />
