SB92-87 Progress Report as of 3/99 (cont.)
Page 2

.

Y-W Well Testine: Association - Evaluate Irrigation Efficiency

Progress Status: Completed Funding: $3,750 Countv: Yuma
Completion Date: 1/31/96 Grant Contact: Conrad Bauer
Grant Purpose: To improve the well testing program and computerize gypsum block
calculations for field reporting.

This project resulted in allowing development of programs to save water and energy while
saving time with producers on location in the field using computerized gypsum block
calculations to produce professional reports. The actual water savings in 1996 were 4,904 acre-
feet.

Western Colorado Botanical Societv - Botanical Gardens

Progress Status: Incomplete Fundine:: $81,501 County: Mesa
Completion Date: Estimated 12/30/99 Grant Contact: Jon Schier
Grant Puroose: To develop artificial wetlands to demonstrate irrigation ofxeriscape and native .
plant areas.

This project consists of pumping raw water from the Colorado River into a small engineered
wetland that will serve as a natural primary filter for the overall irrigation system. Water from
this wetland is collected in a lined pond, then pumped through a sand filter into a drip irrigation
system that serves the entire botanic garden. This project is located at the Western Colorado
Botanic Garden in downtown Grand Junction.

Colorado State Universitv Coooerative Extension (Delta) - Subsurface Micro-Irrigationfor
Kabocha Squash

Progress Status: Incomplete Funding: $37,760 County: Delta
Completion Date: 12/2000 Grant Contact: Dr. Rick Zimmerman
Grant Purpose: To compare subsurface micro-irrigation using different types of driplines on
strawberry plants and kabocha squash.

This project consists of comparing subsurface micro-irrigation using two types of buried
driplines to each other and surface method of irrigation. During each irrigation, water use and
soil moisture tension are recorded for all methods to evaluate water use efficiency in terms of
production. Soil moisture distribution and salinity levels are monitored at three depths for each
plot. ~
