Specific Proiect Status

North Sterling Reservoir

North sterling Reservoir, Located near Sterling Colorado is a Large High Hazard dam, the
Sate Engineer identified the inadequacy of the current spillway in 1982. Several extensions
for compliance with the Dam Safety Rules have occurred in an effort to identify reasonable
solutions to the lack of spillway capacity. These efforts have included suggested revisions to
the 2004 flood hydrology report, a 10% reduction in the HMR PMP used to develop the
Inflow Design Flood (IDF). These adjustments applied to a hydrology study, the preliminary
results indicate a reduction of about 25% of the inflow design flood. This translates to a .
potential reduction of approximately 400 ft (from 1640 ft to 1260 ft) in spillway width and
reduces the additional spiIIway needed to protect the dam from 1000 ft to 629ft.
