L:\Boardmemliuly 2002IAgenda Item 12 - FEMA MMIP memo and re,olotion.doc <br /> <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Floodplain Map Modernization for Colorado <br />COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD <br />July 23, 2002 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), by letter dated April 17, <br />2002, indicated a strong possibility for a significant increase in federal funding for floodplain mapping <br />activities in Colorado and all other states; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, President Bush in his proposed budget for FY '03 has identified $351 million for a <br />floodplain mapping budget, which is a $300 million increase over previous years' funding amounts; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, FEMA has requested each state to assist in the preparation of a statewide Map <br />Modemization Implementation (MMIP) to ensure that floodplain mapping needs, costs, and priorities are <br />appropriately identified; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the CWCB is currently utilizing a $50,000 grant from FEMA for preparation <br />of Colorado's MMIP, and has contracted with the consulting team of Moser Associates and <br />PBS&J to assist CWCB staffwith completion of the plan; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Colorado's MMIP is scheduled to be finalized by September 15, 2002 for <br />incorporation into regional and nationwide plans by FEMA in preparation for expenditure of the proposed <br />federal funding. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Colorado Water Conservation Board in a regular <br />meeting assembled in Pueblo, Colorado this 23rd day of July 2002, that it does hereby respond to more <br />than 100 community requests throughout Colorado to endorse the concepts of the Colorado Map <br />Modemization Implementation Plan that will identify floodplain mapping needs and estimated costs, and that <br />will rank by community and by county, the floodplain mapping priorities for Colorado; and <br />= ~l'v-~~'r- \'" <br />.
