WHEREAS, A floodplain information report entitled "Flood
Hazard Study, South Fork Rio Grande and Rio Grande in the
vicini ty of South Fork, Colorado," dated October, 1980, has been
prepared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation
3ervice, at the request of Rio Grande County and the Rio Grande
Soil Conservation District; and

WHEREAS, the Boarr] of County Commissioners of Ri0 Grande
County has requester] the Coloril.do Ii/ater Conservation Board to

aforesaid report; and

WHEREAS,

Section 37-60-106(1), Colorado Revised Statutes
the Colorado Watet Conservation Board to assist in
of floods ancl flood damages therefrom; and

WHEREAS, Sections 31-23-301 and 30-28-111, Colorado Revised
Statutes 1973, provide that such legislative bodies of local
jurisdictions may provide zoning regulations for land uses on or
along any storm or floodwater rUnoff channel or basin only after
designation and approval by the Colorado Water Conservation
Board; and

WHEREAS, Section 37-60-106(1)(c), Colorado Revised Statutes
1973, directs the Colorado Water Conservation Board to designate
and approve storm or floodwater runoff channels or basins and to
make such <1esignations available to legislative bodies of local
jurisdictions; and

WHEREI\S, the staff of the Board has reviewed said report and
does hereby recommend to the Colorado Water Conservation Board
that the Board designate and a[:)prove as floodplain .,reas those
areas inundated by a 100-year flood (intermediate regional flood)
as described by the floodwater surface elevations and profiles in
