MR. BERTHELSON:

I

I

Mr. Berthelson. Who are you speaking
for, 5i?"

"I am going to speak for myself and Mr.
Williams agrees with everything I sayl

Mr. Chairman, I am in a very unselfish
mood today. I do want to get my two cents
worth in oefore somebody brings something up
that I'll have to disagree with. I can only
say that I'm glad Dave Miller isn't here
~Tith his project today - I'd probably vote
for it I

I want to thank Jimmy for his very fair
and forthright statement about this thing.
I think that if we can keep going down the
road that we are started on now, we can
certainly submit something to the legisla-
ture that they are going to take and do
something with. I don't think we are going
to be able to write this bill so that it
will suit everybody. I think we have got to
look at this thing in the overall picture.
When it goes to the legislature they are
going to do what they want to with it anyhow.
But I do think that we certainly have a
greater concensus here today, and I hope next
week, than I think we have ever had. Thirty
days ago I thought we had so much information
available and so many experts writing bills,
I didn't have any hope at all.

We have accomplished a lot apparently
here in the last two or three weeks. I
think this bill, which I will refer to as
the 'concensus bill' embodies in general
terms what we need to do. I don't think
there is any question about that. We are
all selfish in our motives, but my selfish
position on this thing would be that in
northwest Colorado we'll vote for any bill
that will let you flat landers dig more wells,
the thinking being you won't have to dig so
many tunnels through the mountains 1
