,

.

AUl!mentation Needs: The community well, which is only 48 feet deep,
withdraws water from the South Platte River Alluvium. The well is considerably above
the river but will intercept water which under natural conditions would have flowed to the
river, The South Platte River is over-appropriated during certain times of the year. The
priority date of the well is December 20, 1962, which is junior to many of the calling
rights, The impact caused by pumping the community well can be offset by returning
augmentation water to the South Platte River when there is a call, Since the well is
located about five miles from the river and since the well has been pumped constantly to
irrigate the same area since it was first drilled, it is believed that the well's impact will be
nearly a constant value from month to month, That impact would be 7.22 acre-feet per
month which is the total consumptive use 86,68 acre-feet divided by twelve months. At
the present time the historic river calls have only required augmentation during the six
month irrigation period April through September. In the future there may be a year
around call on the South Platte River, however the December 20, 1962 priority date for
this well may allow it to be pumped in priority without augmentation.

The POA is now actively pursuing the purchase of senior ditch company shares
that will be sufficient to replace their community well's out of priority depletions.
Purchase offers are being made to obtain sufficient surface water so that it would satisfy a
year-round augmentation need, The POA has not yet decided whether to seek
administration of its augmentation plan by rejoining GASP with sufficient surface water to
replace its depletions or to go to court to obtain its own decreed augmentation plan.

.

The POA will assess its own membership to obtain the funds necessary to purchase
the water. A loan from the Colorado Water Conservation Board is being sought to assist
with the initial purchase which will be repaid by an annual assessment to the POA
members.

~J d. ~ /~98
Dat

.
