In the Fl'O'Od Contr'Ol Act of 1960 C'Ongress
auth'Orized a national program for the accumula-
ti'On of flood plain inf'Ormation to aid local
jurisdictions t'O plan for the 'Optimum and pru-
dent use of the flood plains. Under the
auth'Ority 'Of this Act and at the request 'Of and
in c'Oeperation with the Inter-C'Ounty Regi'Onal
Planning Commissian and the Coler ado Water C'On-
servation B'Oard, the Corps 'Of Engineers prepared
flood plain inf'Ormati'On reports far the metropoli-
tan regi'On of Denver. These reports designated
flaad water runaff channels for the metr'Opolitan
area 'Of Denver.

These reports were c'Ompleted pri'Or to the
flo'Ods 'Of June 1965. It is interesting t'O note
that th'Ose floods foll'Owed almast exactly the
fl'Ood plain channels as set forth in the Corps
of Engineers reports.

After the fl'O'Ods 'Of 1965, the 45th General
Assembly, 2nd Regular Sessi'On, adopted laws
all'Owing local jurisdicti'On ta zane fl'O'Od
plains. However, before these l'Ocal govern-
ments c'Ould adapt zoning regulations c'Oncerning
the fl'O'Od water run'Off channels, the General
Assembly provided that the Col'Orado Water Con-
servati'On Board must designate and approve
the fl'Ood water runoff channel. Pursuant to
this law the Inter-County Regional Planning C'Om-
mission has requested the staff 'Of the Board ta
review the aforesaid Corps 'Of Engineers rep'Orts
and to recommend appr'Opriate acti'On t'O the Board.

The staff of the B'Oard has reviewed the
reports and als'O the rep'Orts of the flood of
1965 and recommends that the B'Oard designate
and appr'Ove the st'Orm 'Or runoff channels as
set forth in the reports.

H'Owever, it should be noted that the Corps
'Of Engineers has now under construction the
Chatfield Dam on the South Platte River which,
up'On completion, in conjuncti'On with channel
improvements between Chatfield and Denver city
