<br />! <br /> <br />Wiens said much of the work on water storage to date has focused on building large dams and diversion <br />projects, but that he thought the same results can often be achieved in a more environmentaIly sound and <br />economicaIly feasible manner with underground water storage. . <br /> <br />This is the first water bill to clear the Senate Agriculture Committee this session. The bill now moves to <br />the Senate Appropriations Committee. <br /> <br />A WRA Hosts Presentation on Water RIghts and Beneficial Use of Produced Water From 011 and <br />Gas Wells In Colorado: On February 28, Dick Wolfe from the State Engineer's Office gave a <br />presentation at Denver Water that included the relationships among constitutional provisions, statutory <br />language, and various administrative rules and regulations as they relate to water rights and beneficial use <br />of produced water from oil and gas wells. Presenting an overview of the three jurisdictional authorities as <br />it relates to water rights and beneficial use and an explanation of where conflicts may exist now and in the <br />future. Dick also provided an update on the Coalbed Methane Stream Depletion Assessment Study in the <br />Northern San Juan Basin in Colorado. <br /> <br />Colorado Water Congress 2006 Meetings: <br />The 2006 Summer Convention August 24 - 25, 2006 will be held at the Great Divide Lodge in <br />Breckenridge, Colorado. The Program and Registration Form wiIl be posted at a later date at the <br />CWC website. <br /> <br />CWC Seminar and Workshop Schedule: The Colorado Water Congress prepares a serics of <br />four to eight workshops each year for the purpose of increasing and updating water knowledge <br />both for the actively involved water community and general public knowledge. The seminar and <br />workshops for 2006 wiIl all be held in the Colorado Water Congress Conference Room, 1580 <br />Logan Street, Suite 400, Denver, Colorado. The 2006 programs and registration forms wiIl be <br />posted in late Spring, 2006. CLE credits will be shown on the forms for the workshops when . <br />awarded. <br /> <br />The 49th CWC Annual Convention wiIl be January 25 - 26, 2007 at the DIA Hotel and John Q. <br />Hammonds Convention Center, 15500 East 40th Ave., Denver, Colorado <br /> <br />Colorado Watershed Assembly SeekIng Applications for Statewide Association Executive Director: <br />The Colorado Watershed Assembly was recently accepting applications for a full-time, year round <br />executive director until February 6, when the application review process started. The position is salaried <br />and exempt. The Executive director reports to a smaIl board of directors and will be the lead staff member <br />of the organization with limited administrative support from one part time paid intern based in Ft. Collins. <br /> <br />The Colorado Watershed Assembly stated that the ideal candidate will have a passion for environmental <br />protection and the power of grassroots, citizen's groups to positively affect their local community. The <br />Colorado Watershed Assembly supports collaborative efforts to protect and improve the conservation <br />values of the land, water and other natural resources of Colorado's watersheds. Responsibilities for this <br />role will include growing the association's paid membership; identifying and providing educational and <br />training opportunities that foster the capacity and sustainability of member watershed organizations; <br />expansion of participation in annual conference; fundraising to support organizational expenses; soliciting <br />and managing a variety of new and existing private, state and federal grants and reporting requirements <br />for the organization.
