Animas-La Plata Prolect

The newly created project coordination committee held an organizational meeting In Durango on
May 16. The next meeting Is scheduled for June 20 In Farmington. The Committee will be advisory
in nature as all declsions are the responsibility of th~ Bureau of Reclamation.

On June 1, the Bureau of Reclamation is expected to have authorization to proceed with
negotiations on several topics Including up-front payments, water allocation and recreation facility
costs. The Bureau would like to have decisions on these topics by October 1.

The project's proposed budget for FV2002 of $12 mllilon was recently announced by the President.
To keep the project on schedule, an additional $9.6' million is needed br FY2002.
