306

Mr. Bailey: "It seems to me that there should be some way to get
together and compare these figures with the Bureau's".

Mr. Peterson: "I would be glad to work with them on these figures".

I

Mr. Bailey: "Is that agreeable with the Bureau to get together with
Mr. Peterson and his group?'"

Mr. Roberts: "May I ask, Mr. Peterson, what would be the approximate
cost of an engineering survey on this problem of Curecanti, one which
would be based upon actual knowledge of the geology of the tunnel
rather than the use of highly approximate figures."

Mr. Peterson: "I can't answer that question. Perhaps some of the
engineers can".

Mr. Roberts: "Could we have a survey of the cost of any of these
designs, and study it with a hope for a reconciliation of figures?"

Mr. Larson: "It would not cost very much. If you are going to make
surveys of the big dam sites, of course, .that is a big investiga.tion".

Mr. Riter: "You could get a dependable esti:mate".

Mr. Roberts: "That could be estllblished to study the survey."

Mr. Riter: "I have in mind that we would want to study the possibility
of that dam site. How is the beet way to develop the head?"

Mr. Tipton: "Even if you add 15 million dollars on the tunnel and the
rest of the figures are firm, you would still corne out favorably. <Xle
thing we are going to be up agaiIlSt with the Bureau of the Budget is
the money involved. What we are attempting to do is to determine
whether or not we can get the Curecanti in the storage picture, .stand-
ing on its Ol'm two feet. If there is a possibility of making this
stand on its own feet, by spending two or three thousand dollars on
. surveying it, I think it should be done. I want to study this and I
don't think the study should be confined to Mr. Peterson and the Ad-
visory Board. We have a deadline of January 15th."

I

Mr. Jex: "Knowing a little about the past history of the area, also
having had a chance to sit in with Mr. Riter and Mr. Gildersleeve in
the studies conducted a week ago, I came up with the thought that the
Curecanti darn site could be used. I believe with that information and
Inth other information available, it is possible to analyze the vari-
ous computations relatively connected and I think it would be very
beneficial to this Board and to the entire state. A very good picture
could be secured of the feasibility of the project."

Mr. Peterson: "I am wonderin&__if the committee would be interested in
hearing from some of the men \n'!ff~ who have been directly damaged from
flood waters from the Gunnison River many times. Perhaps it would be
well for a short statement from some of these men on their personal
damages. "
