I

MR. Me CANDLESS:

MR. JENNINGS:

I

smallest of all the participating projects, the
estimated cost being just slightly over $4
million and consists of a reservoir and two small
laterals. The Bostwick Park Project further, has
no federal lands on the project. They are all
privately owned lands and while we have some new
lands on this project, we don't have the particu-
lar problem of the land limitation or the acreage
limitation which was a very controversial matter
when the projects were authorized."

"The 160-acre thing?"

"Yes, the 160-acre limitation. The Committee
on Interior and Insular Affairs in the House
required that we make a report to them on this
matter - on the two projects specifically where
we had new lands or government lands that would
be brought under irrigation. As you know, both
on the Fruitland Mesa and on the Savery-Pot Hook
we have substantial lands that will be disposed
of through what we call new farm units.

This report must be made and it must be
made on various classes of lands and those things.
So both the Fruitland Mesa and the Savery-pot
Hook projects will be slower in completion of
oUr studies than the Bostwick Park. We feel we
must complete that report; we must get some in-
formation from the development farm in Seedskedee
as was testified to at the hearings. I think
that information will not be available for
possibly as much as a year's time or maybe a
little more.

We did not get any moneys this year by
budget items on any of the projects. As a result
of the activities of your Congressional delega-
tion there was a supplemental bill up for action
by both Houses and they did get authority for
us to spend money on Bostwick Park and Fruitland
Mesa this year, provided we could find it from
other projects. So we have funds this year to
spend both on Bostwick Park and Fruitland Mesa,
but they did not secure that approval for the
savery-Pot Hook. The Savery-Pot Hook is included
