" <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />"If I may, Mr. Chairman, I'll report from <br />right here. <br /> <br />It is a pleasure to give you a report on <br />water pollution control activities. This report <br />will primarily concern just the last year of <br />activity but I will give a few comments that go <br />back to the initiation of the Water Pollution <br />Control Commission. <br /> <br />There are now 322 community waste systems <br />in the State of COlorado receiving annual inspec- <br />tion and continued monitoring from the Water <br />Pollution Control Commission staff which is in <br />the water pOllution control division of the <br />Department of Health, as you know. Eleven per- <br />cent of these still have inadequate treatment <br />but will be brought into compliance as soon as <br />it is financially possible for them to do so. <br /> <br />Eighteen federal water quality administra- <br />tion grant applications Were processed in the <br />last year representing $1.7 million in grant <br />funds requested. I might point out that the <br />Federal Water Pollution Control Administration <br />as it used to be known has had its title changed <br />and it is now the Federal Water Quality Adminis- <br />tration. 73 sets of plans and specifications <br />were reviewed last year representing estimated <br />construction cost of just under $13 million. <br />Nine engineering reports were reviewed repre- 1 <br />senting estimated construction costs of about <br />$7~ million. 33 new waste treatment plants were <br />constructed and 10 were expanded. 26 industrial <br />waste pollution sources were abated. Two out- <br />fall or interceptor sewers were completed to <br />connect to existing facilities. The legislature <br />
