And, also, <br /> <br />some of the legal research was not as thorough as it should <br /> <br />have been. At that time, they thought they could flood a <br /> <br />county road and just close it when these unusual floods <br /> <br />occurred. But it has proven since that we cannot expose <br /> <br />ourselves to that kind of liability. So since I have been <br /> <br />on the Board of County Commissioners, we were suddenly hit <br /> <br />with an estimate of three humdred fifty to $400,000 to <br /> <br />relocate that road and':the acquisition money for the land <br /> <br />that the county had, committed to that three groups of County <br /> <br />Commissioners before the current one had committed to turned <br /> <br />out to cost much more than those original estimates - another <br /> <br />bridge at $120,000 to be built. <br /> <br />In other words, instead of a project that was to <br /> <br />have a county contribution of something like $20,000, it <br /> <br />turns out to cost more like half a million dollars. There <br /> <br />was uncertainty in terms of this Board of County Commissioners <br /> <br />being willing to accept that commitment of that earlier <br /> <br />Board of County Commissioners. <br /> <br />I think if you had some grants available for <br /> <br />projects like this, the land could go ahead and be acquired <br /> <br />very quickly instead of running the risk of these kinds of <br /> <br />CHARLINE K.
