Walker <br />Deputv Director <br /> <br />TO: Members, CWCB <br /> <br />FROM: Bill McDonald <br /> <br />DATE: January 7, 1985 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Agenda Item 16, January 14-15, 1985, Board Meeting-- <br />Endangered Species Issues <br /> <br />Colorado River Fishes <br /> <br />The staff will report orally at the Board meeting on the <br />status of the coordinating co~~ittee effort concerning the <br />Colorado River endangered fish species. <br /> <br />Whooping Crane <br /> <br />The Bureau of Reclamation and the Fish and wildlife <br />Service's proposed plan of action for the Platte River was <br />discussed at the Board's September meeting. Jeris Danielson and <br />I subsequently attended a September 28 meeting of the two federal <br />agencies and three states at which Colorado's continuing concerns <br />with some aspects of the proposed plan of action were expressed. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The plan of action has again been redrafted in an effort to <br />resolve various issues raised by the parties attending the <br />September 28 meeting. This new redraft is attached. <br />Unfortunately, we have not had time to prepare a summary and <br />analysis of it since it arrived during the holidays. <br /> <br />The Board will need to discuss this redraft as the Bureau <br />and the Service will be seeking the State's views shortly. I <br />will try to prepare a written analysis for the Board meeting. <br /> <br />Potential Amendments to Endangered Species Act <br /> <br />The federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) is, of course, the <br />source of the difficult issues being faced in the Upper Colorado <br /> <br />217 <br />ai/16 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />APPENDIX J <br />
