This report was prepared by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) at the request of <br />Mesa County and in cooperation with the CWCB. <br /> <br />. New detailed floodplain information for a reach of Douglas Wash, a small left-bank tributary to the <br />Colorado River, was developed for a total length of just over 6 miles for East Douglas Wash and West <br />Douglas wash. <br /> <br />. Rapid development is occurring In unincorporated Clifton as a result of population growth and <br />economic expansion. <br /> <br />. Past flood events in the area have caused damage and created concern over existing and future <br />developments in the floodplain areas. <br /> <br />COMMUNITY RESPONSE: <br />The NRCS transmitted a copy ofthe subject report to the CWCB for review and approval. A <br />description of the CWCB's designation process was included in the report. CWCB staff has <br />been in contact with community officials regarding this study as well. The formal designation <br />and approval for this study is being taken under Rule 9.D.l, community request. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br />The staff recommends Board approval of the floodplain resolution for the Mesa County and the <br />unincorporated community of Clifton, Colorado that designates specific stream reaches of Douglas <br />Wash published in the July 2000 report. Formal action by the Board will assure that the floodplain <br />information has been appropriately recognized by the state, thereby complying with state statutory <br />requirements. <br /> <br />7 <br />
