..JOO..L

I

Canyon Dam on September 13th we had the last
placement of mass concrete in that structure.
That winds up a seven year construction period
in the completion of that structure; that is,
the essential completion of the dam itself.
There yet remains many finishing touches to be
put on this dam, including the trashrack struc-
ture, elevator shaft; miscellaneous work such
as that. The completion contractor is proceed-
ing on schedule with the installation of the
generators and the turbines and other electrical
work in the powerhouse and switchyards. Actual-
ly, work under this completion contract is about
one-third completed as of the present time.

Now the second event was on September 27th
when President Kennedy pushed a button at the
Salt Lake City airport to initiate the final
tests on the No. 1 turbine and generator at
Flaming Gorge Dam, which leads right up directly
to this third event, and that is that on Monday,
November 11th, we initiated limited commercial
power generation from Flaming Gorge. We a%e
on the line now with one unit from this struc-
ture.

As far as the work is concerned at Flaming
Gorge, the prime contract is about 99 percent
finished and we expect it to be completed within
the next couple of weeks. Good progress is also
being made on the completion contract at the
powerhouse and switchyard area. Installation of
the second generating unit is substantially com-
pleted and the installation is well along on
the third unit.

I

It might be interesting to you people too,
that unrestricted access now is being provided
across the dam. There is still a little bit of
miscellaneous work going on - painting of a few
of the structures and things of that nature, but
you can now travel across the dam uninterrupted.

We expect no significant amount of water
to be stored in our storage structures in the
next four or five months. We have reached a
period of rather low flow in the rivers. I have
