it is small enough, it will melt before
it reaches the ground. Their objective
out there is to suppress hail. That's
their specific objective and that's what
they are being paid the $65,000 for."

"How much will your investigation cost?"

"We are requesting $8,000 from the Water
Board and have requested the like amount from
the National Science Foundation."

"IVhat are your possibilities of getting
that $8~000 from the National Science Founda-
tion?"

"Well, we believe that they are reason-
ably good. This, of course, is unofficial."

. "If you don't get that $8,000 from them,
will the $8,000 we might appropriate be
sufficient to do anything?"

"It's a matter of degree, sir. You can
go up to a certain point and no further.
As an example we now have spent monies from
the Research Foundation on the order of
around $4,000. A field investigation.of
this type will take something around $1500
a month to conduct. It involves quite a
bit of travel time to get over the,ground
to see what is going on, as well as to
attempt to take pictures and document what
. is happening:"

"But' to complete your scheduled program
it would take $16,OOO?"

"Yes, sir, that's correct. We think
for lhis amount we can collect the data and
analyse it properly and come up with what-
ever conclusions can be drawn from it."

MR. W.M. WILLIAMS: ,~vhat period does that cover?"

MR. SCHLEUSENER: "This would cover the period fiscal
year from 1 July through 30 June next year."

MR. W.M. WILLIAMS: "What does your study cover? You've
got field data and laboratory studies?"

MR. SCHLEUSENER:

"The field studies have been under way
since the '15th of May, sir."
