STAPLETON:

SENATOR DENNY:

MR. STAPLETON:

"Thank you. Mr. Chairman. I don't believe
that it is that important that I make a state-
ment. I just came in. My only hope is that
out of this meeting and other meetings that
we can all get together and come up with the
kind of legislation that we need. I am
positive and thoroughly convinced that we do
need some and the legislative committees are
very eager to hear from everybody and to work
in your thoughts and others and come up with
the kind of legislation you want.

I

I believe, Mr. stapleton. that is all
I have at this time."

"Senator Denny. we are hoping that you
are going to be able to join us for lunch
today. II

"I think so."

"And members of your committee.
happen to know how many will be with
that we can plan?"

Do you
us so

"I can check it out."

"If you will and we'll have MrS. Keating
make the arrangements. If somebody will get
the word back to her. we'll appreciate it."

"All right. thank you."

"I want the record to show at this point
the dedication of Senator Denny and his com-
mittee. Most of you know. and all of you
should know. that they have been meeting at
8 o'clock on either Monday and Tuesday of
each week or Tuesday and Wednesday. as their
problems dictate. Senator Denny has effec-
tively taken the leadership of natural
resources in the Senate and we are certainly
indebted to you for the services which you
perform. "

I
