for April through July could result in a water
year total of 9,300,000 acre-feet or about
75 percent of the longtime average.

I

With a total water runoff of this magni-
tude, Lake Mead would not fall below its
rated-head level, Lake Powell would rise
somewhat during this spring runoff and then
drop to a level which would still be well
above minimum power pool, so that continued
power production at Glen Canyon is assured.
Water storage in Flaming Gorge, Blue Mesa,
and Navajo would experience a small net reduc-
tion by about a year from now.

It is interesting to note that storage
in Lake powell is at an all time high and is
rising. Lake Powell contains about 9,000,000
acre-feet of its total capacity of 27,000,000
acre-feet. The lake has a surface area of
about 69,000 acres and the depth of water at
the dam is about 400 feet as compared with a
total depth when full of 560 feet.

Under general investigations, completion
of feasibility reports and related work on
the Animas-La plata, Dolores, Dallas Creek,
West Divide, and San Miguel projects has been
expedited so that authorization can be con-
sidered in connection with pending legislation
on the Colorado River Project, H. A supplement to the report
has been completed. The Animas-La plata proj-
ect, as modified by these studies, would
regulate the unusual flows of the Animas and
La plata Rivers for irrigation of non-Indian
and Indian lands and municipal and industrial
use at Durango, Colorado, and Farmington, New
Mexico, and at other communities and prospec-
tive industrial sites in the project area.
