MR. STAPLETON:

MR. CORNELIUS:

MR. HANNA:

MR. SPARKS:

has not been completely resolved to the satis-
faction of Nevada. This is strictly a Lower
Basin problem."

"Any further questions?"

"Larry, what about the support of New
Mexico?"

I

"Mr. Chairman, are they going over the old
grounds about the Marble canyon and Bridge
canyon Dams in these hearings?"

"Bert, I see red every time that is men-
tioned. I have never in my life seen so many
experts on power who know so little about it.
Every person who belongs to the Sierra Club
or any affiliated organization has suddenly
become a power expert. I am tempted to get
out a standard memorandum and send it in
response to the letters that I am getting
saying 'What kind of a fool are you, when
you think that hydro-power is still in the
picture?'. My answer to them is that there
are thousands of fools around the world
because hydro-power is being constructed all
over the world on a continuous basis. It has
different characteristics than thermal power.

This is one of the major arguments now
being raised by the conservationists, and
there is just not much you can do about it.
We do have real experts in the field. The
major public service companies in the United
States have people who know more about power
than anyone that I know of. They will sup-
port these projects. They can use peaking
power; they will buy all of the peaking power
that is produced by these plants if it is I
offered to them. The proof of the pudding
is in the eating. The power can be sold.
The utility companies have always supported
these types of projects and have advised us
that they will continue to support them if
they consider they are feasible.

Hopefully, we won' t have to go through
