<br />tolR. STAPLETON: <br /> <br />MR. SPARKS: <br /> <br />regarding any contribution they can make, <br />that they are required to make by law, in <br />connection with various projects. But it <br />will be, I think, at least two years before <br />we'll have any actual projects worked out in <br />that area. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />There is a committee appointed under the <br />auspices of the Southeastern District, com- <br />posed of representatives throughout the <br />Valley, cities, farmers and so on, who are <br />working with the corps of Engineers. We have <br />also delegated members of our staff to work <br />on that committee. <br /> <br />I might add just a little bit to what t-tr. <br />Slizeski has said about the South platte <br />studies and the schedule. Hearings have been <br />scheduled on May 2nd for the governors of <br />the four Upper Basin States. At that time <br />Governor Love will present testimony request- <br />ing an additional appropriation for the <br />Chatfield Darn. The pUblic Works Subcommittee <br />of the Committee on Appropriations handles all <br />of these matters, whether they are under the <br />Corps of Engineers or under the Bureau of <br />Reclamation. So we will have an opportunity <br />on May 2nd to present testimony for all of <br />the projects in Colorado. <br /> <br />Generally, there are no shortages of <br />funds for any of our projects with the excep- <br />tion of Chatfield." <br /> <br />"Is there any indication of cutbacks <br />because of Viet Nam so far as any of these <br />funds are concerned or actual construction?" <br /> <br />"No. We have no indication of any cut- <br />backs whatsoever. As a matter of fact, it <br />appears entirely likely that Congress will <br />exceed the recommended budget for these public <br />works expenditures.
