Introduction
The Rio Grande and Piedra Valley Ditch Company (RGPVDC) is applying for a loan in amount of
$52,000 to replace 13 wooden check structures on the Rio Grande and Piedra Valley Ditch. The
estimated total cost of the project is $69,333. Please see the attached project summary and map.

Backaround
The RGPVDC, located in Rio Grande County, owns and operates the Rio Grande and Piedra
Valley Ditch to deliver direct flow irrigation water for the benefit of the shareholders. Water is
diverted from the Rio Grande River about 4 miles northwest of Monte Vista, and delivered through
a 9-mile ditch system to the 7,660-acre service area. There are thirteen (13) check structures
throughout the system that are about 40 years old, wooden and in various states of decay. The
Company wants to replace all thirteen check structures during the fall of 2003.

Feasibility Studies
Laurie Clark, P.E. (Natural Resources Conservation Service - Monte Vista) has completed the
Feasibility Study, with the assistance of William McNeil, President of the RGPVDC. The study
includes an assessment of alternatives for repair or replacement of the wooden check structures.

The Rio Grande and Piedra Vallev Ditch ComDanv
The RGPVDC is a mutual ditch company and a non-profit corporation registered in the State of
Colorado. There are 31 shareholders and 204.32 shares of stock. The RGPVDC has the power
to set annual assessments to be paid by the shareholders, the power to cut off water deliveries
to shareholders that fail to pay their assessments, and the power to offer stock for sale to pay
back assessments.
