Essential Habitat.

Squaw fish are known to migrate up to 200 miles up and down-

stream to reach spawning areas essential for species reproduc-

tion, The isolated stream segments identified for critical habi-

tat designation occur within the squawfish migration routes.

Maintenance of necessary flow and temperature conditions, and

riprian and aquatic habitat along these migration routes is

essential to the preservation and recovery of tllis species.

Designacion of the following stream segments 05 COlllpOllClltS o[ ttlC

National Wild and Scenic River System would be the best method to

protect these habitat areas since this statutory scheme would

provide protection against erection of migration barriers, would

ensure maintenance of flows, and would protect riparian habitat:

1.
