Over the years we have <br />worked closely with the Soil Ccnservaticn Ser- <br />vice and tried tc render what assistance we <br />are able tc in their field. Actually. under <br />the law, this Board is charged with the state <br />respcnsibility in the scil ccnservation field <br />and P. L. 566 prcjects deal with a brcader <br />aspect of ccnservation than just soil conser- <br />vation alene. In connection with scil conser- <br />vaticn it is necessary tc ccnstruct small flccd <br />contrcl projects and alsc to prcvide a water <br />supply. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Since the enactment cf P. L. 566. the Scil <br />Ccnservation Service in this state has been <br />quite active. We have scme very impcrtant <br />prcjects which have already been ccnstructed. <br />There are two that I can think cf here in <br />western Coloradc; one near Montrcse. the Roat- <br />cap Wash prcj~ct, and cne near Grand Junction. <br />the Indian Wash prcject. Applicaticns from <br />this Durangc area have been received and approv- <br />ed which wculd fill scme of the gap that we <br />criginally intended tc fill with the pine River <br />Extensicn. which the Bureau of Reclamaticn <br />fcund not feasible as a reclamaticn project. <br /> <br />Sc the soil Conservation Service has played <br />a very important part in picking up the smaller <br />prcjects which accumulatively are cf extreme <br />impcrtance. In the flccds of last year the <br />Scil Ccnservaticn Service had ccnstructed a <br />
