Hunter and seconded by John 11. Beaty <br />that the Colorado Water Conservation Board commend llr. Williams <br />'and his assistant, Miss Wentzel, for the outstanding work dis- <br />played in the preparation of the 1948-1950 Year Book. On vote, <br />the motion carried unanimously and was declared adopted. <br /> <br />Vice Chairman Bailey requested Glenn G. Saunders, Attorney for the <br />Denver Water Board, to sit as a member of the ~ater Board for the meeting, <br />substituting for Teller Ammons who was absent. <br /> <br />S. W. Lohman, USGS district geologist, presented a resume of the <br />\ll1derground water survey program being carried on jointly by the Colorado <br />Water Conservation Board and USGS. <br /> <br />Discussion on how to expand and expedite the program revealed that <br />the only acceleration would be through an increase in flmds available for the <br />work. It was reported that the budget submitted to the State Controller esti- <br />mated $25,000 as the state share of the expenses for the work for the next <br />biennium. If the amount is to be increased demand' for increased appropriation <br />must come through local 'grass roots' demand for n larger program. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />George S. Fuller announced a proposed bill which aimed to raise state <br />standards in well drilling and installations, by requiring registration of <br />qualified drillers, three years of experience, and a bond of $5,000. Mr. <br />Saunders suggested that the well drillers inform the General Assembly that a <br />proposed bill is available for study, but he further recommended that covering <br />laws presently on the statutes be enforced. He said he believed enforcement of <br />present laws would answer for provisions outlined in the proposed bill. <br /> <br />Mayor James J. Shew of Trinidad made oral request to the Board to have <br />the Trinidad area given immediate attention in an undergro\ll1d water survey. <br />His statement supplemented a vr.ritten application previously filed with the <br />Director r:i' the Board. lJayor Shew sa.id that Trinidad has experienced an economic <br />decline, but has prospects of securing new industries if adequate water supplies <br />can be assured. <br />
