<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />616 <br /> <br />As funds for starting construction were appropriated <br />during the last session of the Congress, invitations for bids <br />for construction of Vega Darn can be issued soon. Assuming <br />that favorable bids are received, construction could start af- <br />ter the election is held and the repayment contract executed <br />by the Collbran District and the Bureau of Reclamation. <br /> <br />Silt Project <br /> <br />A contract was awarded to Ryall Engineering Company <br />for topographic mapping of the project lands. A committee <br />has been appointed by the people in the project area to ini- <br />tiate organization of a conservancy district. A formal peti- <br />tion for the organization has been drawn and is being circulated <br />to obtain required signatures for filing with the District Court. <br />Engineering assistance is being provided the District through <br />the Colorado River Water Conservation District. <br /> <br />Paonia Project <br /> <br />Data have been submitted to the Chief Engineer for <br />preparation of final designs and specifications on Paonia Darn. <br />Authority to proceed with this work in advance of the definite <br />plan report completion has been requested from the Commissioner. <br />Tentative studies indicate that adequate capacity exists in the <br />Overland Canal and other existing ditches to serve'the lands on <br />Redlands Mesa and that the originally contemplated enlargement <br />of the Overland Canal will not be necessary. <br /> <br />Florida Project <br /> <br />Land classification surveys and topographic surveys <br />of Lemon Reservoir site were suspended for the winter months. <br />Office work is going forward. <br /> <br />Pine River Project Extension <br /> <br />Project land topography was received from Fairchild <br />Aerial Surveys. Strip topography on the King Consolidated Canal <br />enlargement and detailed land classification surveys is contin- <br />uing. <br /> <br />Animas-La Plata Project <br /> <br />Studies were made of the possibilities for serving <br />municipal water to the city of Durango and presented to the city <br />officials. This appears to be a desirable addition to the pro- <br />ject plan for the cities' municipal water. <br /> <br />Dolores Project <br /> <br />Topographic surveys and land classification surveys <br />of project lands are continuing. <br /> <br />/ <br />
