I

I

(Slide) The timetable for this investigation is one year later than
the Dolores, all the way through. Again our construction program
being submitted in 1974, La Plata water developed in 1978, Animas
water developed in 1980, continuation, and completion in 1986.

Now, what are some (Slide) of the problems that we have here? In
our lower area we recognized that we needed an entity to contract
for this project. Presently, what we have is a conservancy district
right around the presently irrigated area, a very small conservancy
district here. Some of us can visualize that conservancy district
being expanded to cover all of the area being considered, including
Durango and all of this area that would be benefited from the project.
The Southwestern District is working very hard to bring this new
district into creation. Once the new district is created, the old
district here will be dissolved. This is one of the challenges pre-
ceding construction, preceding negotiation on contract.

Development of return flow on the Indian lands along the Mancos
River and some development along the Mancos River is being inves-
tigated to see if the return flow is usable as recreation, fish and
wildlife, and if possible, irrigation down below on the Mancos
River.

(Slide) The San Miguel project - it just got started in 1972 and our
investigations are well under way. The schedule we have here - one
year later again. (Slide) The preliminary plan in 1974, details in
1975, and the report in 1976. (Slide) The preliminary plan was again
taking water from San Miguel through a tunnel, bringing it into the
Norwood area.

In consideration of environmental statements, we are looking at other
reservoir sites. This is the Sunshine site here. There are others
that probably will have to be included in the environmental state-
ments, so they will be investigated. Presently, we are concentrating
on investigations in the new land area with detailed land classifica-
tions.

(Slide) The timetable for this one indicates about the same quantities
that we had before in our DPR. These are our feasibility figures and
the timetable for it, one year later again. By this time, 1976,
execution of the payment contract, right in here, before you go to
Congress for funds for construction.

(Slide) In summary, what is this planning program all about as far as

-20-
