'~9

I

With the help of State funds certification relative
to the classification could be made in 1958. Other-
wise this will probably take a year longer.

(3) Pine River Extension. The Bureau would like
to make all possible progress on this Participating
project also. An amount of $18,000 has been put into
an aerial photography contract to obtain topography
for further land classification. The furnishing of
$15,000 of State money could materially step up
the flying and classification program. No estimate
was made of the resulting reduction of the time required
for completion.

(4) Animas-La Plata. The completion of an
authorizing report is expected sometime in 1959,
An amount of $80,000 has been allocated for fiscal 1957.

3. Planning Reports Required

Information was also presented with respect to
projects on which reports are in progress or contemplated:

Fruitland Mesa. The Bureau has allocated $60,000
in fiscal 1957 toward the authorizing report on this
project. At this rate it is expected that the report
would be completed in the regional office later in the
winter of 1957. There wou~d then be time required for
review in the Washington offices and for comments
by the affected States, which would delay submission
to Congress. If $10,000 to $15,000 of State money
could be made available, it is estimated that the report
could be completed in the fall of 1957 and be ready
for submission to Congress early in 1958.

Bostwick Park. Interest in this project has been
expressed by both the City of Montrose and irrigators.
An amount of $30,000 has been set up toward an
authorization report with a target date of the fall
of 1958. It is estimated that with $20,000.of State
money availa~le, this report date could be advanced
about a year, or to the fall of 1957.

I

Dallas Creek. Some new gaging stations have been
recently installed for the water supply study for this
project. Normally, the Bureau of Reclamation would
prefer to wait until two or three years of record
have been obtained before going into a report. However,
if it is the desire of the State, and State funds in the amount
of about $20,000 were to be furnished, the Bureau would
participate so that a report could be made earlier than
is otherwise anticipated. .
